Crap sinks to the same level

On 2/8 a reader wrote via email:

The other Stuy Town blogger wrote a nasty, anti-dog post on his hobby site
today. (Blog post titled “Eat Your Dog”) Since nobody reads it he figures negative attention is better than no attention at all.

I loathe this kind of one sided, childish, hatred for dogs but do agree that
some people do a miserable job picking up after their dogs in ST. Of course it’s
impossible to tell residents from non-residents. I thought there may be a way we
could use this bad example as a way to start a dialogue with lucid people and
maybe reach out to those people who let their dogs run amok and give the rest of
us a bad name.

YES. I have noticed it too–lately. There is an alarming increase in the amount of poopsicles left about. I have been wanting to write about this but had not figured out how to approach it. I have never actually seen anyone not pick up but nevertheless the evidence is there!! I suspected it  mostly to be pro dog-walkers but there is no real evidence of that and I have witnessed just the opposite. I don’t know what’s worse-a few dog turds or piles of cigarette butts everywhere. Today I picked up quite a few foreign turds. Interestingly, some of them turned out to be Macanudos and Cohibas.

I have three theories. I noticed this problem started around the time of the last snow and cold snap.

  1. It is harder to handle a doggie poopie pickup bag with gloved hands than it is to handle a bag bare-handed.
  2. Since it was/is going to snow people think it will just be covered up.
  3. It does get covered up. A hot dog will sink out of sight when dropped in fresh powder  but come the big thaw all dumps end up at the same level-on the ground  looking like they were all suddenly deposited simultaneously.

I have a friend who lives a block from the Madison Square dog run and he tells me that lately there is more poop on the sidewalk now than he has ever seen before. I wonder if this is a citywide phenomenon.

Anyway people who do not pickup after their dogs SUCK, are SELFISH, ARROGANT pieces of dog shit themselves as is this outstanding New Yorker who promised us dog friendly areas. It may be said that all of you who are complaining about non-compliance with the rules are complicit in that you never pressured Tishman Speyer to make good on their promise which would have put the dogs and their crap where they belong, in a dog run on the property. Instead what most of you did do was just whine about going back to the good old dog ban days.

Pick it up dog people!

It does not matter what the weather is like or any situation – I have always picked up after my dog and have sometimes made a fool of my self doing so—-grabbing garbage or leaves to do it if I forgot a bag.

In fact many of us pay silly amounts of money for designer poop bags and such nonsense, me being one of them:)

I know scores of dog owners here and they are all totally dedicated to picking up after their dogs as they really enjoy their dogs and understand the responsibility—that said, there are people who do not live here who walk their dogs and lots of dog walkers some with as much as or more than 5 large dogs.

My real concern is the walkers of these packs of dogs. I do not know if the owners of individual dogs realize that their dogs are being taken out with these packs. These dogs might be very well behaved, but it is not good form to expose people to this possibly dangerous practice. If one is going to get a dog walker, they should make sure that the above is not the situation—

    Thank you—-
