Earlier today, before reading your post, we were walking our dog in Stuy Town near 20th St and Ave C. Our dog picked up a large piece of cooked meat from under the snow--which I quickly extracted from his mouth. I placed the meat in a plastic bag and disposed of it in a garbage bin. Hopefully, this is not the work of someone trying to poison dogs in the neighborhood. Thank you for passing along this distressing post. I will alert all my dog owner friends.

It does not matter what the weather is like or any situation - I have always picked up after my dog and have sometimes made a fool of my self doing so----grabbing garbage or leaves to do it if I forgot a bag.

In fact many of us pay silly amounts of money for designer poop bags and such nonsense, me being one of them:)

I know scores of dog owners here and they are all totally dedicated to picking up after their dogs as they really enjoy their dogs and understand the responsibility---that said, there are people who do not live here who walk their dogs and lots of dog walkers some with as much as or more than 5 large dogs.

My real concern is the walkers of these packs of dogs. I do not know if the owners of individual dogs realize that their dogs are being taken out with these packs. These dogs might be very well behaved, but it is not good form to expose people to this possibly dangerous practice. If one is going to get a dog walker, they should make sure that the above is not the situation---

Thank you----

A subscriber, Pookie, writes:

By the way, in Stuy Town, there are people who sprinkle dark chocolate in the road at the Oval. Twice I had to bring Pookie home and make her throw up (the animal poison center recommends this for about a 20 lb dog: 2 teaspoons of Peroxide mixed with lots of milk - I used vanilla soy milk.
She lapped it up and then I gave her a piece of food and she ate it - - then she threw up. The chocolate was clearly there in chunks and it was all done really fast so as not to allow metabolization to begin.
You may want to share that. Pretty disgusting huh? That people harm each other and helpless animals is sickening. But protection and sharing how to deal with it may be effective. Thanks for passing this along about the dog runs.
