  • Great idea. Charge dog owners if there are no funds to build it.
  • Stuy Town advertised a dog run and never delivered. Instead of these silly amenities, a dog run would keep the dogs in a dedicated area, which would benefit all residents, dog-owners or not.
  • It would be great to have a dog run in our pcv/st, but is it really neccessary to have a barrier between market rate/ stablized tenants about fees???? and isnt one dog run enough work?? or are we dividing pcv and st too???
  • There are so many dogs all over the place. A dog run seems like a good idea.
  • PCST is supposed to be dog-friendly but I can’t even count the number of times people have told me that dogs aren’t allowed or that give me dirty looks for having two very well behaved and cute dogs.
  • our puppy is a very active dog and needs to run and play with other dogs
  • Great idea. Good for dogs and people: dogs get to run and play; people get to socialize; landscaping isn’t damaged and exercised dogs are calm and quiet in their apartments.
  • This needs to be done. There are too many complaints about the dogs playing on the grass. As a new tenant paying market rent, I was not informed about the restrictions on my dog, as I was charged $250 to have have him here. Build them please!
  • Your leasing representatives and marketing materials said this place is dog-friendly. Don’t make us have to defend our dogs to our neighbors when we were the ones deceived.
  • Bravo! I could understand the reluctance when the rule was first changed. But where’s the negative impact from dogs. Seems to me it would be a nice spot for dog owners to meet and allow their pets some freedom.
  • We moved into PCV in May and were under the impression that there would be designated areas for the dogs. A dog run is necessary here.
  • Definitely necessary – its about time they stop lying to us!
  • PCVST is advertised as dog friendly and many market rate tenants were told a dog run was being built. The website stated there were areas exclusively for dogs-now that has changed. We have been lied to and must act.
  • 1. Follow through with your promise to be dog friendly 2. Let us have a place to go where people won’t be mad at us. It’s not the dogs fault! 3. Attract new renters! 4. Safety, Safety, Safety FOR EVERYONE!
  • Why not raise the fences slightly on any of the many play areas, some of which are often virtually empty? Additionally, this should not be limited to ‘market rate’ tenants.
  • I do not have a dog, but am an animal lover. I enjoy the fairly recent influx of dogs and would think dog runs would be an appropriate addition to the community.
  • I think we need one. i just love watching dogs frolic
  • I find it quite absurd that the building allow dogs, took a $250 pet fee when I signed the lease acknowledging that I would bring my dog into the complex, and then proceed to have anti-dog rules like “no dogs on the grass”. Where are they supposed to go? Honestly, can we have a sign that says “No nasty anti-dog old people on the sidewalks”? If not, maybe we should take all the signs down and just be nice and allow loveable dogs and crabby old people alike.
  • I paid $250 fee to register my dog. He’s a resident here too and should have a safe clean space to run around without getting yelled at.
  • A puppy playground/dog run would be an asset to our neighborhood. Prove to us this is a pet friendly environment.
  • even if only one dogrun is available, would be good.
  • I don’t have a dog but love them and enjoy very much seeing them around Stuyvesant Town. I think they deserve a dog run of their own.
  • Building a dog run will benefit all people and animals. Pets can have designated areas to play freely, people who don’t want pets running in undesignated areas will be at peace, and the DOGS will be happy. Please build the dog runs for us now.
  • So excited about this; I know I’ve run into a ton of people and we always say “I wish we had a dog run here in PCV/ST….” I’m so glad someone took the initiative to make it finally happen. That non refundable $250 we pay ought to go to something!! :)

That place is not really a dog park. It is a sectioned off part of the park and it’s open at odd hours. People who use it don’t clean it up very well. It’s just asphalt and the poop sticks to it. It’s awful. There are some pretty nasty dogs and people who go there.

I think its needed to give the dogs some place to be-not on the grass or walking around the place. Anyway when I moved here I was told by the agent that there would be dog friendly areas.

I don’t know where you’d put it. I thought the landlord had that figured out. There does not seem to be any shortage of space or unused playgrounds.

Would someone mind explaining why a Dog Run is needed.
Isn’t there one on 17th between 1st and 2nd Aves?

Also, where would you place the Dog Run in PCVST?

    Thanks – very curious.

  • @adriana

I am truly sorry that happened to you. Where did this happen exactly?

I have never had anything like this happen to me but I would tell them that they should sign the petition for a dog run. Tell her that its her fault for not demanding that the landlord honor his promise of “dog friendly areas” as advertised when the ban was lifted. Our dogs would have someplace to be—out of her sight.

For the most part I’ve had positive responses to my 10-pound-dog’s presence in both Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, especially from families with children, who often ask if their kids can pet my friendly dog.

This morning, I got verbally assaulted by a woman, literally while I was picking up the poop with a bag to throw out. Amidst calling me names like “shit for brains,” after I said “Ma’am, I don’t understand,” she said I couldn’t let my dog poop where he did (on cobblestone between pavement and a wall separating a strip of “garden”), because children play there. She also told me I should eat his poop for lunch.

What’s better for the children of Stuyvesant Town? My sweet, little dog, which I always clean up after… or an inappropriate woman yelling profanities at someone cleaning up.

  • I think it’s a great idea even thought I don’t have a dog. But I would love to have one.

  • what do you mean “play areas”
