Craig’s List Posting Threatens To Place Poison in Dog runs

Through NYCdog, we’ve just been alerted to the following:

NYC PARKS ENFORCEMENT POLICE (PEP) REPORTS THAT A CRAIG’S LIST POSTING
THREATENS TO PLACE POISON IN DOG RUNS.

It could be a hoax or it could be real.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD IMMEDIATELY TO ALL DOG RUN/PARK USERS

1. When entering a dog run, please study it carefully BEFORE unleashing your dog.

2. If you spot ANYTHING suspicious, IMMEDIATELY call the police, parks enforcement police, and 311. Stay nearby until police arrive.

3. Do not touch anything suspicious and do not let any dogs near it.

4. Be vigilant right OUTSIDE of your dog runs. If someone truly intends to poison dogs, placing laced food near the dog runs is a way to avoid being easily spotted. Again- if you spot anything, report it immediately.

5. If you spot anything, please also let NYCdog know so we can share with everyone.

We are not sharing the Craigslist link so that officials may investigate properly.

Again, this could be a hoax but just in case it is real, be cautious.

Earlier today, before reading your post, we were walking our dog in Stuy Town near 20th St and Ave C. Our dog picked up a large piece of cooked meat from under the snow–which I quickly extracted from his mouth. I placed the meat in a plastic bag and disposed of it in a garbage bin. Hopefully, this is not the work of someone trying to poison dogs in the neighborhood. Thank you for passing along this distressing post. I will alert all my dog owner friends.

By the way, in Stuy Town, there are people who sprinkle dark chocolate in the road at the Oval. Twice I had to bring Pookie home and make her throw up (the animal poison center recommends this for about a 20 lb dog: 2 teaspoons of Peroxide mixed with lots of milk – I used vanilla soy milk.
She lapped it up and then I gave her a piece of food and she ate it – - then she threw up. The chocolate was clearly there in chunks and it was all done really fast so as not to allow metabolization to begin.
You may want to share that. Pretty disgusting huh? That people harm each other and helpless animals is sickening. But protection and sharing how to deal with it may be effective. Thanks for passing this along about the dog runs.
